Start here: five questions, one sentence each
A Start here page asks the five questions a log analysis answers, in order, and answers each in one sentence built from your logs with the figures behind it and a link to the detail.
A new site in Salience has forty-odd reports to choose from. A consultant does not start with a page list; they start with questions, in a fixed order: can the data be trusted, is Googlebot getting in, where is it spending its time, are AI crawlers getting in, is anything exposed.
What changed
- Start here, first in the sidebar, asks those five questions for the selected period and answers each in one sentence: "Yes for search crawlers: 803 of 864 search-crawler requests in the last 24 hours came from verified search-engine addresses (93%)."
- Every answer carries a verdict (good, attention, bad, info, unknown), says what it counted, lists the figures behind the sentence, and links to the page with the detail. Nothing in a sentence is invented.
- The feed state sits above the answers, so a proxied or silent feed is the first thing you read.
- API:
GET /public/v1/websites/{id}/start-here. MCP 1.31.0:get_start_here. CLI 2.11.0:salience start-here.
